The Greenhouse Dinner
“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” -J.R.R. Tolkien
Being a couple of creatives in a small town has its ups and downs. Resources and communities aren’t handed to us. There is no “arts district” in Fort Wayne, Indiana. What we have are strip malls, restaurants designed by middle-aged wives, used car lots, and parking garages.
But we love it here. It feels like home because it is. And the talented people who decide not to abandon ship for someplace hipper are some of the most inviting, loving and downright crafty fellows the Midwest has to offer.
Lindsay and John Cheesebrew of Bird + Cleaver became fast friends over wine and vintage culinary magazines. The idea of a styled pop-up dinner series had been on both of our minds, so we dreamed up a beautiful community dinner in a local working greenhouse – Mcnamara Florist and Greenhouse. With a little help from Maeve Vintage Rentals and custom menus from Kairoscope, the tables were set in a way worthy of Bird + Cleaver’s beautiful spread. The chicken was lovingly raised by Hawkins Family Farm for our meal.
