Elopement in White Sands National Monument

One year ago today, we fell in love with elopements. Before this day, we were so concerned with finding couples with great details, gorgeous style and cool venues. Before this, a wedding (to us) was a really cool party with super cool people. Everything changed with Malia and Derrik.

Never being ones for the spotlight, these two decided to pick a beautiful place and share a wedding day where all they had to worry about was each other. Keeping each other warm. Brushing the windblown hair from her face. No themes, no bridal party, no obligations or traditions. Just love.

To witness such a stripped down version of a wedding really revealed to us what it really means to share in every moment together. Mitch and I stood as witness and were asked to sign their marriage license. It touched our hearts to be included in their marriage in such an intimate way.

White Sands National Monument will forever hold a dear place in our hearts. The colors change every minute as the sun evolves and dives below the mountain range. It feels both so striking and so isolating. Apart from Mitch and I, Malia and Derrik spent the moments after their ceremony alone with the sunset, hours from the nearest city. It was so beautiful to witness. We will never forget it.

For those who are thinking of eloping, or who are considering an intimate wedding, I can promise you it is no less grand of a ceremony. To start out your marriage out on an adventure is quite possibly the most romantic metaphor you can have.
