The McCains – Love in Joshua Tree, California pt. 2
Being a wedding photographer is kind of like being a wizard in a muggle world. Our strange schedule, the mystery of how we actually make a living, and our own technical language certainly make us feel…other. We go to magical far-off places, fear the same common fears (the dreaded hard-drive failure and upsetting our beloved couples) and make magic with our wands…er…cameras.
But probably the most wonderful wizard-like quality about photographers is the sense of community, of sticking together for common survival and teaching one another how to grow and improve with every step.
This is how we met the McCains.
Successful wedding photographers themselves, they answered our request online to photograph a couple in Joshua Tree California. Without a thought of the potential strangeness of spending two nights in the middle of nowhere with strangers, we knew our shared passion for photography would be enough to find some common ground and went for it.
It was like we had already been friends for years. In fact, Liana and Destany arrived wearing nearly the same outfit.
Our time together under the stars and the hot heat of the desert was far too short, but there is something to be said about taking chances on one another. If one of us had an ounce less of trust in our hearts, love for people, and encouragement to help a fellow creative this magical meet-up might never have happened.
