Sophia + Matt – Grand Rapids Elopement

“I think in the case of high school sweethearts, you either grow together or you grow apart, and Matt and I have been fortunate enough to grow together over the past 7 years. I can’t imagine this journey without him. He is my absolute best friend – my biggest supporter and the one who keeps me weird.” – Sophia

Wearing a full sequin, colored gown on a Thursday evening, inviting only bridal party and immediate family for a dramatic long floral-adorned table filled with doughnuts and hamburgers, Sophia and Matt challenged everything about a standard wedding.

We spent the evening before their wedding hiking the dunes and pine forests of Grand Rapids, shaking off the jitters of the day ahead and getting down to the heart of the matter. They spent their wedding morning surrounded by loved ones and dear friends and ran off together to have their intimate first look in the forest. Sophia and Matt chose to walk down the aisle together and share their vows, officiated by Matt’s father by a nearby stream.

Watching these two reminded us that not all love is serious, that sharing deep joy and a hell of a lot of weirdness makes for a lasting marriage.
